Dialogue Editing & Cleanup

Dialogue is the most consequential element in any mix. That’s why it’s my top priority on every project. I’ve been known to obsess over the alchemy of dialogue noise reduction, using all of the cutting-edge tools like iZotope Rx10 Advanced, Accentize dxRevive Pro, Waves Clarity Vx Pro and countless others. Dialogue acts as a loudness anchor for sound effects, music and any other sound elements in a mix, so ensuring performance preservation and overall smoothness is absolutely essential to projects of all sizes.

Foley Recording & Editing

Foley is an incredibly powerful way to reinforce the suspension of disbelief in an audience. Once clean dialogue has been achieved, proper foley can continue the pursuit of performance preservation by ensuring each character’s body language is as legible as their dialogue. It’s important that each character feels as if they truly exists in their world. Foley acts as the glue between a character and their environment by introducing a subtle, but grounding presence to the mix.

Sound Effects Design

Developing original and story-specific sound effects is one of the many tools that we can use to reinforce narrative themes, world-build, and immerse the audience in the story and characters. These sounds can be developed using a multitude of techniques including field recording, studio recording, analog and digital synthesis, and manipulating pre-recorded sounds from some of the top sound libraries on the market. Combining these techniques results in a robust and original soundtrack for any project.

Final Re-Recording Mixing

This is where everything comes together and is my personal area of expertise in the field. Knowing the proper balance of dialogue, sound effects and music is a skill often overlooked, maybe because when a mix is properly executed it should feel seamless and sublime. This is the stage where we really get to zoom out and asses the feel of a project, working together in-person to imagine how the audience will experience it in real time. A well-refined gut instinct, deep technical experience and a knack for quickly aligning with the client are essential to this process.
